Why this site exists
Most “cost calculators” online are a thin wrapper around a form that sells your contact details to contractors. We built Home Cost Guide to do the opposite: give you a real number, show our work, and never ask for your email or phone number to see it.
Every estimate on this site is generated by a single, open cost model. When we say a conventional septic system runs a certain amount, the calculator, the prose, and the structured data all read from the same source — so they can never quietly disagree.
What we cover today
Our first wave of guides covers six services across three categories:
- Septic System cost — Septic
- Water Well Drilling cost — Wells & Drainage
- French Drain cost — Wells & Drainage
- Sump Pump cost — Wells & Drainage
- Garage Door Installation cost — Garage Doors
- Garage Door Spring Repair cost — Garage Doors
We are expanding state coverage and adding categories over time. Read exactly how the numbers are built on our methodology page.
How we make money
Home Cost Guide is free to use. We support the site with clearly labeled display advertising. We do not sell your personal information, and our cost estimates are never influenced by advertisers. See our Privacy Policy for how advertising cookies work.
A note on accuracy
Our estimates are budgeting ranges built from published contractor pricing and public wage data, not binding quotes. Local conditions, materials, and individual contractors vary. Always confirm the final price with a licensed local professional before you commit.
Questions or a correction? Contact us — we take accuracy seriously and update the model when the market moves.
